The 2024 summer fete hosted by Basingstoke African Caribbean Catholic Association (BACCA) left a lasting positive impact on the community.
The event on Saturday, June 22 provided ample opportunity for locals to develop new friendships, strengthen existing relationships, and raise funds for St Bede's parish projects.
BACCA raised a total of £2,228.20 through ticket sales and various activities, the proceeds of which will go towards the parish.
Held under sunny skies, the fete saw community members gather for a day filled with laughter and fun.
The diverse array of activities catered to all age groups, with childhood classics such as egg and spoon races, parachute games, and musical chairs.

Attendees were also treated to a culinary feast, featuring dishes indicative of African and Caribbean traditions.
The ambience was buoyed by lively music and colourful decorations adding to the sense of community spirit. Children had a great time partaking in games and face painting, while adults enjoyed conversations and dancing.
The clear weather accentuated the joy of meeting and mingling with new people in a relaxed atmosphere. As the day drew to a close, the shared smiles and laughter made it evident that the fete had been a resounding success.

In her closing speech, BACCA president Nelo Madukaiwe reflected on the event's success, and said: "Today's event is a testament to the power of community. We have come together not just to enjoy good food and entertainment, but to build new relationships and strengthen existing bonds of friendship. It is a beautiful reminder of what makes our community so special."
Henri J.M. Nouwen's said: "Community means that people come together around the table, not just to feed their bodies, but to feed their minds and their relationships," resonated deeply with attendees.
"The Summer Fete embodied this sentiment, fostering a sense of unity and belonging. Nelo added, "The success of the event lies in individual participation and contributions, as we are truly stronger when we all stand together."
