A BASINGSTOKE boy has once again brought pride to his community with a stellar performance in Madeira, Portugal last week.
Caiden Griffin, 12, from Chineham, secured five medals as he competed for Pentathlon GB and Team GB.
This year, Caiden has already made headlines as the British National Triathle champion and the British ISA Schools Triathlon silver medallist in the under 13 category, and recently broke the Eaton and Datchet London West ISA Athletics 800m record.
In Funchal, Madeira, at the European Championships he continued his winning streak with an impressive haul of medals for Great Britain including individual and team golds in the individual Laser Run (continuous Run-Shoot), where his seamless combination of running and shooting proved unbeatable.

Alongside his relay partner he then clinched another individual gold in the mixed Laser Run, finishing nine seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
He also shined in the Triathle event (continuous Run-Swim-Shoot), winning an individual bronze and a team gold, and he narrowly missed the podium and another two medals in the Biathle (continuous Run-Swim) event by just 0.6 seconds.
Caiden’s achievements build on his previous successes including finishing third in the UIPM Laser Run World Championships in Bath last year, and this coming September he will be looking to retain his national Laser Run title for a third year in a row, and he will soon be competing again for Team GB at the upcoming UIPM World Championships in Egypt.
Training with Basingstoke Wessex Wyvern Modern Pentathlon Club and Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletics Club, Caiden continues to develop his skills and push his potential.
He was recognised with a nomination for the Destination Basingstoke Basingstoke Young Sportsman of the Year award.
