AN ODIHAM junior school now boasts a Secret Garden for its pupils, a vision brought to life by headteacher Sarah McGillivray.

Since September 2022, Mrs McGillivray, of Mayhill Junior School, aimed to provide a tranquil environment for the children to embrace nature and instil a sense of mindfulness.

She envisaged a captivating setting for outdoor studying particularly related to scientific and natural themes.

At the outset, the abandoned plot was thicket-infested and hazardous, crying out for a significant revamp.

After several discussions and scheming for months, the project was set in motion.

Importantly, the children contributed their inventive ideas, infusing a personal touch to space they would soon relish.

As the construction began, the team hoped to incorporate soothing elements like sensory objects and plants in the Secret Garden.

They also aimed to establish safe wildlife habitats and serene spots for the young ones to sit and learn.

July 4 marked the grand opening of the Secret Garden attended by many individuals who facilitated the project.

The school benefitted from various grants and contributions from local charities and organisations that enabled the purchase of gardening tools, plants, and adornments.

A special acknowledgment has gone to Frontier Landscaping, a Farnham-based company.

Frontier Landscaping not only brought Mrs MgGillivray's vision alive but also sponsored the transformation, converting the neglected area into an enchanting al fresco space.

The firm was the guest of honour and inaugurated the garden.

Its efforts for the Mayhill pupils have ensured that the Secret Garden will be relished for many years and by numerous children.

No accolades are sufficient for acknowledging the tireless work and dedication Frontier Landscaping demonstrated to revitalise the school grounds.
