A BASINGSTOKE school’s playing field became a riot of rainbow colours when families enjoyed a special event near the end of term.
Families of St John’s Primary School, in Kingsmill Road, took part in a Colour Run organised by the Friends of St John’s School (FOSJ).
Children and adults gathered after school on the playing field in glorious sunshine to enjoy a motivating warm-up led by FOSJ chair Sarah Gausden.
More than 300 participants, wearing white t-shirts and sunglasses, then made their way around a fun course through the school’s woodland and across the playing field, while volunteers threw coloured powder over them.

Those taking part had the extra challenge of completing various obstacles along the way, such as scrambling under a cargo net or running through a coloured streamer archway.
At the end of the course, deputy headteacher Neil Tunnicliffe was on hand to squirt participants with water as they finished the event in style across a slip-and-slide runway.
Every participant was awarded a celebratory medal at the finish line by the school’s headteacher Angela Nicholls.

Money raised from the event will go to the school, with previous funds raised by the FOSJ paying for various additions to St John’s including ukuleles, recorders, a Christmas pantomime for all the children, grounds work, new benches, and a story reading chair.
Sarah, who has two children at St John’s, said: “The event was a huge success and it was wonderful to see so many of our school’s families having fun together at the Colour Run and making memories that will last a lifetime. It was a real community event that brought the whole school together to enjoy doing something fun and memorable.
“It was the first time we have held a Colour Run at St John’s and we are so pleased that everyone thoroughly enjoyed it – we’ve had such positive feedback.
“The event took a lot of organising and I am so grateful to all our super volunteers who gave up their time to make it possible and without whom events such as this could not happen, as well as St John’s staff who offered their support, especially Hayley Williams who played a key part in organising the event.
“It was worth it to see all the smiles and laughter. We certainly ended the school year on a high and it was a sight I will never forget, seeing everyone splatted in all the colours of the rainbow! It makes me proud to be part of such an amazing school.”
