AN 18-year-old Olympic hopeful visited a Hampshire primary school hoping to inspire the next generation of athletes. 

Romsey-based runner Annie Mann has ambitions to compete for Team GB at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and was happy to meet pupils to talk about her journey so far.

Award-winning housebuilder Bewley Homes organised the visit to Overton Church of England Primary School as part of its ongoing commitment to community engagement and supporting local initiatives.

Annie, who competes for Winchester and District Athletics Club, has been making headlines with her impressive track performances, including winning the European U18 1,500m Championships last year.

Annie spoke about how a former PE teacher saw a talent and helped her get a start in athletics. She also talked about her training regime and the challenges she has overcome to pursue her dream of competing on the international stage. Annie emphasised the importance of hard work, resilience, and maintaining a positive mindset.

The pupils of Overton Primary School were eager to ask Annie questions about her experiences and aspirations. The event concluded with a fun running session, where students ran alongside Annie and tried the long jump.

Annie said: "I was so excited to meet the pupils of Overton Primary School and share my journey with them. I hope my story encourages them to pursue their own dreams, whether in athletics, sports or any other passion they have.”

Annie, who is about to start a four-year scholarship in Boston, USA, added: “The Paris Olympics are next week, and while my sights are set on Los Angeles in 2028, every day counts towards reaching my goals."
