While all eyes might be focused on the upcoming Olympics in Paris starting on Friday, July 26, there are still plenty of domestic competitions taking place.

Several Basingstoke & Mid Hants Athletics Club (BMHAC) athletes travelled to Birmingham last weekend for the England U20 and Senior Track and Field Championships at the Alexander Stadium.

Friday evening in warm conditions was the focus for middle-distance athletes with Reece Sharman-Newell, who narrowly missed out on Olympic selection in Manchester, ran a storming last 300m to take the gold in the U23 men’s 800m.

Harry Ware receiving his Bronze medal at the Alexander Stadium  (Image: Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletics Club) Next up for BMHAC was Harry Ware in the Senior men’s 800m who was narrowly edged into the third place Bronze medal position.

Another Bronze medal came for Tom Sycklemoore, just back from injury suffered in a fall at a Loughborough BMC meet, in the Senior Men’s 1500m.

Rounding out the successful day came another Bronze medal, this time for Maddie Deadman in the Senior Women’s 1500m.

Saturday saw more success for the club this time with Mikun Adeniran taking Bronze in the U20 Discus, following on from his success at the English School competition the previous weekend.

Henry Christer was also another club medallist in the Men’s U20 100m final taking Bronze also making it into the U20 men’s 200m final on Sunday.
