ST Michael's Hospice is inviting the community to join its annual Moonlight Walk on Saturday, September 28, at Festival Place.

This year aims to surpass last year's record-breaking participation of more than 750 walkers.

So, gather your friends, family, and colleagues, and prepare for a dazzling night filled with fun, fundraising, and community spirit.

Hospices across the country face challenges due to a lack of NHS funding and rising costs.

This event aims to raise awareness and vital funds to prevent service reductions at St Michael's Hospice and ensure continued support for families in North Hampshire.

The 10k route can be walked at your own pace, making it accessible to all.

Participants can expect a fun-filled atmosphere with refreshments, face painting, music, and an energetic warm-up before setting off to illuminate Basingstoke at 9pm.

While everyone is encouraged to embrace glitter and glow-in-the-dark accessories, creativity is welcomed!

Previous years have seen participants dressed in themed outfits, like the Pink Ladies and their cardboard car.

This year, the hospice's Furniture Store manager, Chris, is taking the challenge to a new level by carrying a full-sized bed along the route!

"The Moonlight Walk is a truly heartwarming event," said Laura Toop, event manager at St Michael's Hospice.

"It's about coming together as a community to show how much we value the Hospice's work."

In 2023, St Michael's Hospice supported more than 800 people across North Hampshire.

With only 16 per cent funding from the NHS, the hospice relies heavily on community support to raise the additional £15,000 needed daily to operate.

Events like the Moonlight Walk are crucial in ensuring continued care for patients and their families.
