A BASINGSTOKE DJ has appealed for help to support the town’s nightlife following the closure of two Top of Town venues.

As previously reported, Vaultz Bar and Restaurant, in Winchester Street, closed in July just eight months after opening.

The news followed the announcement that the Rhu Bar, in London Street, closed in May after 25 years.

Harry's Bar (Image: Rob Newman) Bruin White, who runs DJ events at Harry’s Bar, in London Street, has appealed for people to support the venue and others.

He said he was saddened to hear of the closure of both the Rhu Bar and Vaultz and asked people to support other venues in the town “not just for the sake of my own event but for the wider nightlife industry in Basingstoke”.

Bruin runs Summer Sessions day parities at the Top of Town bar playing house and disco music from 2pm until 8pm. The next event planned for Saturday, August 24.

He has also planned a Back to the 90s event on Saturday, August 10 from 9pm until 3am with 90s house music.

Bruin White (Image: Bruin White / Rob Newman) “It’s a must-see for 90s house enthusiasts and those seeking a little nostalgia,” he said, adding: “The message is that there are interesting events going on in Basingstoke, not just at night time, with a variety of musical genres on offer. Harry’s Bar’s drinks are well priced, and there’s a good time to be had by stepping out of the house.”

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council announced plans in July to ‘breathe new life’ into the Top of Town with the hope of transforming the area.

It plans to rejuvenate the area and enhance its vibrancy with a package of improvements, including outdoor seating to create a ‘thriving café culture’.

The council said a series of enhancements will be made to the area, while longer-term options for the town centre are explored.
