HARTLEY Wintney progressed into the next round of the FA Cup courtesy of three unopposed second half goals.
Downton made a promising start and on two minutes Ollie Davies, coming in from the right, found an opening and his effort was saved by the well positioned Henry Poole in the Row goal. Hartley’s first effort arrived on six minutes following a free kick when George Britton crossed and Tom Drinkwater headed wide.
The Row dominated most of the possession but struggled to create chances. On 20 minutes Ellis Orsborne combined with Aderi Dede who found Britton who saw his effort saved by Kai Storr in the Robins goal. Hartley remained on top and on 36 minutes Charlie Postance set up Britton whose effort found Dede who headed wide. A minute later the Row was unlucky not to score when Dede set up Reece Wylie who saw his goal-bound effort hit a Hartley player.

The second period started with Hartley almost pressing the self-destruct button. A loose pass across defence was picked up by the visitors Leon Carbayo-Borges who had a one-on-one with Poole. The Hartley keeper saved with his feet. Two minutes later the Row were awarded a penalty kick following a handball by a Downton defender in the penalty area. Dede stepped up and saw his shot pushed away by Storr.
Hartley continued to hold the edge and went ahead on 53 minutes. Wylie found Britton on the right and his cross was converted by Postance at the back post with a low shot. (1-0).
Three minutes later a surging run from Orsborne down the right created a chance for Postance who shot wide. Hartley increased the lead on 63 minutes with a good individual goal from Dede. Picking the ball up on the halfway line the Hartley forward made good progress through the middle and finished with a low shot past Storr. (2-0).

On 66 minutes Dede combined with Postance and the latter saw his effort saved by Storr. The visitors started to show more urgency and thought they had pulled a goal back on 70 minutes when Tom Rafferty headed home following a free kick. However celebrations were cut short with an assistant referee call for offside. On 73 minutes Postance went on a long run and finished with a shot which went wide.
Hartley increased the lead on 82 minutes when Dede passed to Sam Bartlett on the right. The young striker cut inside and curled an excellent left foot shot into the net. (3-0). In added time Downton almost scored a consolation goal when a shot from Lewis Elshaw brought out a good save from Poole.
The reward for Hartley Wintney is another home tie on Saturday, August 17, against Larkhall Athletic.
