Basingstoke and Mid Hants star Ben Pattison has taken a confident first step towards Olympic glory, comfortably winning his heat in the 800m at the Olympics in Paris on Wednesday, August 7.
The 22-year-old, who secured a gold medal at the British Championships last month, clocked a time of 1:45:56 to finish first in his heat in Paris.
The victory sets him up nicely for the semi-finals, which take place on Friday morning.
Pattison, who already boasts a World Championship bronze medal to his name, is a hot favourite for a medal in Paris.
The Hook-born athlete will be looking to maintain his momentum and secure a place in Saturday's final.
The semi-finals will be held at 10.30am on Friday, August 9, with the final taking place at 6.05pm on Saturday, August 10.
