A NEW cafe has opened its doors in Winklebury, completing a dream come true for one of its owners.
Leanne Pentlow and Kerry Duggan have opened L & K Cafe, next to The Winkle, in Winklebury Way.
Leanne was approached by her friend who owns The Winkle, who asked if she wanted to take on the business as it had been closed for a while.
The 33-year-old said: “It needed a bit of work doing to it, but as a family we pushed on, it took us about four weeks to paint and sort it out.”
The café has been painted, with pictures and faux pink flowers adorning the walls.

“I’ve always wanted to have a cafe or a patisserie place and then this came about so we thought we would give it a go,” Leanne said.
Both Leanne and Kerry have a background in the food industry. Leanne said: “I was a chef for 16 years and Kerry has also been in catering for a while and then both of us stopped and went into care.”
The couple sought inspiration from friends and family for the cafe’s menu which includes staples such as a full English breakfast, bacon and sausage sandwiches, and jacket potatoes, but also features nachos, enchiladas and burgers.
The cafe owners have decided to serve solely gluten-free food on Wednesdays.

Kerry, 42, said: “I put it on Facebook everyday before we open and got positive feedback.”
The cafe will still be able to serve a selection of gluten-free items on other days.
Since opening, the new venture has received good feedback from customers, with many being wowed by the transformation of the premises and the food.
Kerry said: “A lot of people have run cafes before but the way we look at things is different. It is not a one-person job, it is a lot more, but what you put in is what you get out.
“It will be a lot of hard work but hopefully it will pay off.”
Leanne and Kerry want to introduce youth nights at the cafe and car meets, to give a place for motoring enthusiasts to gather.
Leanne, who grew up in Winklebury, but now lives in Rooksdown, also runs another business with Kerry - a sweet company called L & K Candy Co.

The cafe is open 7amto 4pm Tuesday to Friday, and 9am to noon on the first Saturday of every month.
