CARFEST, the UK’s biggest family fundraising festival, has announced a switch to eco-friendly fuel for its fleet vehicles.
Partnering with SUSTAIN, the festival, backed by bp pulse, plans to run 123 vehicles including delivery trucks and luggage buggies on plant-powered SUSTAIN Diesel.
This inaugural move over the weekend of August 23 to August 25 aims to save nearly 10.8 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to the weight of seven standard cars or akin to planting 60 trees in a year.
Generated from agricultural waste such as discarded straw or crops, the fuel recycles existing atmospheric carbon, thereby attenuating the release of additional CO2 that was previously imprisoned underground in fossil fuel.

CarFest, conceived by radio presenter Chris Evans, harbours an ambition to lower its carbon footprint and heighten sustainability levels at its events.
The upcoming festival will also include an on-site EV charging facility for campers, the first such addition.
Supplementary 2,000 litres of SUSTAIN gasoline will be provided for vehicles engaged in track events.
As well as offering free-of-charge eco-friendly fuel at the festival, SUSTAIN will join as a partner in the Car Club Collective, a segment of the event hosting a mix of classic and modern cars, handpicked by some of the UK's top car clubs.
Adding to this, event collaborator Mazda will use the SUSTAIN fuel for its Mazda MX-5 Celebration, which showcases 10 models from four generations of the world's top-selling two-seater roadster.

This follows Mazda completing two driving challenges on SUSTAIN, which included a 1,000-mile drive from Land’s End to John O’Groats, relying exclusively on biofuel earlier this year.
Festival director Anjna Raheja said: "We’re excited to further our environmental efforts for CarFest 2024 and showcase the many technologies available.
"As our event line-up goes to show, the UK’s passion for motoring takes many forms and we are keen to reflect that variety in the partners we welcome on site. Whether you’re a classic car owner wanting a credible fossil fuel alternative or you’re interested in embracing electric vehicles, you can explore it all at the event."
