BASINGSTOKE'S Women's Equality Party organised a meeting for men to address gender inequality effects.

The event, which took place at Basingstoke Hockey Club on Sunday, August 11, is the party's third endeavour, with prior events centred on domestic violence and mental health.

This year spotlighted male health and wellbeing.

Stacy Hart, Women’s Equality Party borough councillor for Hatch Warren and Beggarwood, and WEP Basingstoke’s branch leader, said: "The Women’s Equality Party believe that equality is better for everyone. It’s our party’s tagline, but it’s more than just a catchy motto: we say it because it’s true.

"Bringing about gender equality more broadly means that our politics represents everyone, our policies are more inclusive, and we create a society that’s at ease with itself, where everyone can fulfil their potential. We’re clear that looking at local and national policy through the lens of equality makes things better for both men and women.

"Alongside guest speakers, everyone who came to our event - men and women - had a lively and passionate discussion, sharing their thoughts and experiences on topics from health and childcare to the economic and societal benefits that equality brings.

"The Women’s Equality Party is committed to fighting for a better society for the benefit of everyone, both nationally and here in Basingstoke, and everyone is welcome.

"Thank you to everyone who came to our men’s event to share their experiences and especially to Rob Moir, founder of the Bridges Training Hub, who spoke passionately about the damaging impact of an increasingly hyper-masculine culture on men’s health and wellbeing. A huge thanks also to the Basingstoke Hockey Club for hosting us."
