A TEENAGER and a man are due to appear in court later today for charges related to violent disorder at a protest outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Aldershot.

An officer was injured at the demonstration outside Potters International Hotel whilst carrying out routine enquiries on Saturday, August 3. He had to go to hospital with a minor injury after being assaulted by a man.

Steven Tinquin, 40, from Grosvenor Road in Aldershot, has been charged with three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

Tiquin is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Tuesday, August 13, where he will also face an additional charge of assaulting an emergency worker, affray and a racially aggravated public order offence, following postal requisition.

A 13-year-old girl from Aldershot, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is also due to appear at the same court on Tuesday, August 13 to face a charge of violent disorder, following postal requisition.

It comes after reports of disorder at a protest outside Potters International Hotel on Wednesday, July 31.

Seven men have already been charged in connection with the incident and are due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 14.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We note this incident has attracted commentary on social media – we understand the community’s concern, however, we urge people to please not speculate on the circumstances through online commentary."
