STUDENTS at a Basingstoke college are celebrating getting their A-Level results after waiting for weeks.

There were smiles all around at Queen Mary's College on Thursday, August 15, as students collected and opened their results.

Amy-Jane Fitzgibbon achieved a triple Distinction star in her performing arts BTEC. The 18-year-old will be attending London drama school, Millenium Performing Arts, in September.

She said: "I only needed a triple Merit so this is just an added bonus which I'm really happy with."

Amy-Jane added that her favourite part of studying performing arts is 'doing with the people you love and getting to have fun whilst still working'.

Art student Abi Massey received three Distinctions in her art course. The 18-year-old hopes to go into the fashion industry, going on to study fashion communications at Nottingham Trent University.

Advancing to study mental health nursing at the University of Manchester, Freya Loose told the Gazette that she 'felt really good' about her results, adding that she 'did a lot better than I thought I was going to do'.

The 18-year-old achieved an A*, A and A in politics, law and psychology.

Brighton Hill resident, Nishad KC, scored high with two A*s and an A, saying 'it's incredible really' about the results.

Nishad added: "I'm very relieved and just very pleased with the results, I got more than I thought.

"I'm genuinely grateful for all the support that staff members and my peers at college have given me. I'm over the moon."

Nishad will study medicine at Brighton and Sussex University. His mother, Trishna Rai, said: "I'm really proud of him, he's a very hardworking boy."

William Chave was awarded three A*s in computer science, maths, and further maths, and an A in French. 

He added that the grades mean he can attend his first choice university, Oxford, where he will study maths. William said he would go out for dinner with his family to celebrate the results.

Excel Oloniyo from Rooksdown was handed A*, A and A in biology, chemistry and psychology.

The 17-year-old is going on to study medicine at Southampton University after receiving offers from all five of the universities she applied for.

Excel said she was very happy with the results.

Her dad, Moses, said he feels 'glad and happy' about Excel's results, saying she 'put in so much work to her performance'.

He continued: "The output justifies what she put in, which serves as an encouragement for other students that they should work hard.

"It may look difficult but if they put their mind to it, put away distractions and work hard, they can do it."

Josh Liddard from North Waltham, received A*, A and B in his results, in the subjects politics, history and psychology.

The results have allowed him to continue on to Bath University, where he will study politics and international relations.

Josh said he is 'definitely' pleased with his grades, adding that he'd put lots of time and effort into studying.

From Beggarwood, Sam Bourns was 'very happy' to get an A* in maths, an A* in law, an A in physics and a B in further maths.

Sam will attend Exeter University, working towards a degree in law.

Paul Lovelock studied geography, politics and media, receiving a B, B, and A respectively. 

The 18-year-old from Winklebury said the grades mean he can study international relations at Loughborough University. 

"I am very excited," said Paul.

Principal at QMC, Mark Henderson, said results day is 'one of the nicest days of the year'.

He added: "It's an opportunity for us to celebrate our students and our staff. Our results look great, which is always a relief.

"They've worked incredibly hard, and this cohort, it's not been straightforward for them and yet they've come through and really excelled, so I'm really happy."
