HOOK and Newnham Basics starlet Ollie Webster smashed an unbeaten 86 off 48 balls to steer Hampshire Under-16s to a thrilling four-wicket win over Cornwall in a decisive ECB Cup tie in the East Woodhay rain.
He was at the crease with Hampshire in a pickle at 24-4 having been set to score a DLS calculated 151 off 20 overs to beat Cornwall's 136-2.
But, partnered by Basingstoke and North Hants youngster Abdullah Abid in a 116-run partnership, Webster took control, hitting three sixes and 12 fours in a blistering innings.
Abid scored a maiden 50 for Basingstoke in the ECB Southern Premier League last weekend.
The pair took Hampshire within touching distance of victory and a place in the national quarter-finals as runners-up behind group winners, Wales.
Hampshire will play Middlesex at Merchant Taylor's School, Northwood, on Sunday.
