South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) has advised people to consider alternative help options before calling 999 over the August bank holiday.
Urgent treatment centres will be open all weekend in the south central region, providing care for minor injuries and ailments without needing an appointment.
According to the Trust, these centres could treat patients more quickly than hospital A&E departments or calling an ambulance.
On top of the traditional services, NHS 111 will be running 24/7 over the August bank holiday weekend, available online or via a phone call.
The service aims to assist those who require urgent help that isn't an emergency, providing advice and support for various symptoms, issues, and existing medical conditions, as well as mental health support.
Ahead of the three-day break, the Trust has also advised people to prepare by collecting prescription medication and buying first aid supplies.
Additional recommendations from SCAS for a safe weekend include wearing helmets whilst riding bikes or e-scooters, drinking responsibly, and prioritising safety while near water.
Tracy Redman, assistant director of operations at SCAS, said: "Bank holiday weekends have always been busy for our 999 and NHS 111 services and we're expecting this one to be no different."
"With our emergency service under pressure we are asking people to make the right call and only dial 999 if you, or someone you're with, is suffering a very serious or life-threatening emergency that needs immediate help."
"Such emergencies can include someone who is not breathing or unconscious, severe chest pains or symptoms of stroke, serious bleeding, serious burns or severe injuries from a fall or road traffic collision."
