FIVE generations of a Basingstoke family have been immortalised in a photo, as a 93-year-old woman became a great-great-grandmother.

The family of the former mayoress of Basingstoke welcomed a new addition, in the form of baby Maya, and celebrated the occasion with a lovely photo - spanning five generations.

The photo shows 93-year-old great-great-grandmother, Connie White, holding the two-week-old baby Maya at their first family get-together.

Sandra Miller, the wife of Cllr Paul Miller, told the Gazette that she is "proud" to be a part of the wholesome achievement.

She said: "I am so proud, and so is my mum, but I'm not so proud to think of myself as a great-grandmother - but I do feel so good."

Sandra's mother, Connie White, is a resident of Basingstoke care home Dashwood Manor, in Beggarwood, while the rest of her side of the family are spread throughout North Hampshire.

Having grown up in Farnborough, Sandra spent many years teaching in Basingstoke and Aldershot, and told the Gazette she is "very happy" to be a part of such a large family, "I feel very lucky," she said.

Cllr Miller, the former mayor of Basingstoke, added: "Personally, my family was very different, we lost my grandparents way before I was even born.

"Not many families get to experience something like this, so I am very proud to be connected with them, and am very proud of the strong Basingstoke and North Hampshire connection."
