Basingstoke Town climbed to the top of the league table with a perfect record after defeating Dorchester Town 2-0, securing their third win in as many games.

The victory, achieved through second-half goals from Liam Ferdinand and Nnamdi Nwachuku, keeps Basingstoke's momentum strong as they continue their early-season form.

The match, held last Saturday, saw a goalless first half despite some early pressure from Basingstoke.

In the 12th minute, Paul Hodges registered the first shot on target for ‘Stoke, but the Dorchester goalkeeper managed to gather it.

George Reid came close in the 32nd minute, but a last-ditch challenge by a Dorchester defender thwarted his effort.

Basingstoke’s breakthrough came just after the interval when Liam Ferdinand found the back of the net in the 49th minute, putting his team ahead.

Dorchester had a chance to equalise in the 62nd minute, but their hopes were dashed as the ball struck the woodwork.

In the closing stages, substitute Nnamdi Nwachuku sealed the win with a goal in the first minute of injury time, opening his account for the season and ensuring Basingstoke took all three points.

After the match, Basingstoke manager Dan Brownlie praised his team’s performance, highlighting the significance of the win so early in the season.

"I'm really proud of the boys, not just the way they went about the game, the intensity, and the work rate. It was professionalism throughout," said Brownlie.

"There was only maybe a 5-10 minute period where I felt we were a bit too expansive for my liking, other than that it was pretty faultless. It's three games on the spin, but the last two games were top performances.

"I'm really pleased with our day's work."

Basingstoke Town will aim to continue their winning streak as they prepare to face Gosport Borough away on Saturday, August 24.

They will then return home for a Monday 3pm clash against Bracknell Town.

Basingstoke have been drawn at home against Sholing in the FA Cup first qualifying round, with the match scheduled for Saturday, August 31.
