ODIHAM and Greywell B won a thrilling Cyril Thompson Trophy final, as they beat Chawton on the very last ball of the game at May’s Bounty on Monday.

This made it a double-winning season for the club, as they were crowned Hampshire League Division One champions last week.

Odiham came into the final over needing 13 to win and it got off to the worst possible as Ethan Fotit had top scorer Ed Ikin caught by Sam Charlton.

Even if for a second it looked like he had dropped the ball, Charlton somehow grabbed it at the second attempt.

Three runs then came from the next two balls and at this point, Chawton looked on course for victory.

However, Odiham skipper Will Kettle made sure the game reach boiling point with two consecutive fours.

Tension was at breaking point in front of a bumper crowd at May’s Bounty with still one run needed off the last ball for victory.

But the captain was the coolest man on the ground as hit the final delivery for four as well to secure an amazing comeback victory.

It was a fitting end to a game that had so many twists and turns.

Earlier in the day, Chawton were put into bat and got off to a great start as openers Sam Charlton (29) and Jacob Channon (21) put on 44 in six overs.

Odiham hit back thanks to a great spell from Becky Hartnett, who took an excellent 3-17 from her four overs. This took her tally to eight wickets in the competition which earned her the award as the top bowler.

At this point, Chawton were 92-6, but thanks to Toby Charlton (41) and Jake Wadey (17 not out), they looked to have built a decent total as they finished on144-9.

The Odiham reply got off to the worst possible start as Gareth Sharp was bowled by Jacob Channon (2-23) on the last ball of the first over for a duck.

At the other Kyran Munt showed why he was the highest-scoring batsman in the competition as he hit three sixes.

His 11-ball 23-run knock came to an end as he was caught by wicket-keeper Toby Williams off a ball many felt he never touched.

This wicket gave Chawton a great lift and they looked in control for a while as Odiham struggled to score runs.

Henry Schooling was the next man out for eight with score on 47.

Man of the match Ed Ikin then started to open the blade and bring Odiham back into the game and along with Scott Collins (14) they moved the score to 119, but that was by the end of the 18th over, and winning score of 145 looked a long way off.

Ikin kept up the pressure in the penultimate over, but then his great innings of 69 was ended on the first ball of the final six.

His 60-ball stay at the centre had seen him hit six fours and two maximums.

At this point, the game swung once again towards Chawton, but it was left to Will Kettle to see his side home in thrilling fashion hitting the winning runs off the final ball to finish 13 not out and Jamie Reid was unbeaten on three.

After an amazing victory winning skipper Will Kettle said: “This win shows the character of the boys as they never gave up.

“This is a way we wanted to finish our season having won the league title.”
