North Hants Golf Club prevailed after a competitive event that culminated in a tie between their team and Shifnal from Shropshire.

Shifnal looked set to take home the crown after Alexandra Ling’s marvellous performance on the final day, with two eagles in her level-par round, and Fern Clark’s 83 giving them an overall score of +18.

However, North Hants’ Aimee Paterson (78, +5) and Georgina Carter 79 (+6) saw their two counting scores take the Hampshire club to a final total of +18 as well.

The tie was eventually broken by comparing the aggregate scores of all three players from each team.

The result was determined based on an impressive score of 83 by Lily Walker from North Hants, surpassing the 92 points by Ann Peters from Shifnal.

The victory occurred on the final day of the event, which sees North Hants secure a place to represent England in the European Ladies' Club Trophy.

The international tournament is scheduled to take place at Golf Club Welten, Slovakia, from October 3 to 5.

Meanwhile, Willesley Park and Hindhead tied for third place, with West Lancashire, Huddersfield and Sundridge Park following in joint fifth position.

Paterson said: "We’re all in a lot of shock at the moment so we can’t really speak, we can’t really believe it! We’ve been playing a lot of golf, with seven rounds in four days last week in Liverpool, so we’ve had chance to acclimatise to the north."

Teammate Carter said: "I almost had a hole-in-one today on the 2nd where I stuck it to just a few inches. I had about three eagle opportunities too but the greens were so difficult. None of us were prepared for the rain today, it caught us completely off guard. We were running to the cars after the 9th to grab our umbrellas!"

North Hants Ladies Captain Frances Crummay said: "It’s absolutely fantastic to win, it’s a great reflection of the ladies’ game that we have at North Hants."
