MCDONALD'S says it has 'listened to residents' concerns' after the fast food chain withdrew its application asking if it can open 24/7.

The restaurant had previously asked for permission from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to open from 5am until 5am at its new site in Hatch Warren.

The plans sparked objections from residents, who raised concerns about anti-social behaviour, noise and traffic.

A licensing sub-committee meeting was previously scheduled by the borough council on Friday, September 6, for councillors to decide whether the restaurant would be allowed to open 24/7.

However, the application was withdrawn on Wednesday, September 4 meaning the McDonald's branch will not be allowed to open overnight or serve food between 11pm and 5am.

A spokesperson for the chain told the Gazette: "We are excited about the opportunity to open a new restaurant in Hatch Warren, we have listened to residents' concerns and are no longer planning to apply for a 24-hour licence at this stage."

Hatch Warren and Beggarwood borough councillor, Stacy Hart, said she is 'delighted' that the application has been withdrawn.

She added: "I'd like to thank every one of the 187 residents that wrote to the licensing committee to state their objections and the dozens that contacted me and wanted to speak alongside me at the hearing.

"This is a testament to how getting involved in local issues and making your voice heard can have a positive impact on your community!"
