A FORMER subpostmaster from South Warnborough has said 'nothing has changed' after an ITV drama inspired by the events of the Post Office scandal won big at the National Television Awards.

Jo Hamilton, who was played by Bafta-winning actress Monica Donlan in the four-part drama, took to the stage after Mr Bates vs the Post Office won the special Impact Award for bringing the scandal back to the spotlight.

Addressing the crowd, Ms Hamilton, who was portrayed by actress Monica Dolan in the four-part drama, called for the public's renewed support.

Surrounded by fellow victims of the scandal, she said: "I went to Westminster a couple of weeks back and saw the new minister and trust me, nothing has changed.

"Almost all of these people behind me haven't been paid yet. And out of the group of 555, more than 300 haven't been paid yet."

Mother-of-two Jo was falsely accused of stealing £36,000 from the Post Office, which she ran at a village shop in South Warnborough.

She pleaded guilty in 2008 to false accounting for fear of going to prison. However, her conviction was quashed in 2021 after she was found to be a victim of the Horizon Post Office Scandal.

In response to Ms Hamilton's remarks, Prime Minister Keir Starmer told reporters at a press conference in central London: "Obviously, almost everywhere we look, there's a bigger problem than we anticipated.

"Everything pretty well has been broken by the last government. So, we are getting on with this as quickly as we can. I did make that commitment and I stick by that commitment, we'll get on with it just as quickly as we can."
