I am a widowed pensioner who would like to downsize, like many others.

If I purchased a maisonette, I would have to pay at least £1,400 a year for leasehold.

If I move into an independent living home, I would have to pay at least £800 per month for maintenance fee.

Why can't two-bedroom terraced bungalows be built, which would release these four-bedroom homes?

But all they keep building are three-, four-, five-bedroom houses, thousands of them, which is not any help to first-time buyers either.

Yours sincerely,

H. J. Stillwell
