A nursery celebrated National Fitness Day with activities that promote physical and emotional development.

First Friends Nursery in Chineham marked the day with a range of fun activities that are part of their regular 'Movement and Mindfulness' programme.

The children in the nursery took on an adventure-themed obstacle course inspired by the popular children's book, We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

The course was designed to improve their balance and coordination as they jumped, crawled, and balanced through various challenges.

Children and staff took part in a variety of activities (Image: First Friends Nursery) In the Explorers room, children participated in a yoga session, practising their favourite poses, which helped improve their balance, gross motor skills, and listening abilities.

Later, they created their own obstacle course in the garden, using a climbing frame, stepping stones, a slide, and a hoop for a big jump finish.

The day was rounded off with a calming mindfulness session, where the children practised stretches, breathing, and body awareness.

Storytime was also made interactive with the reading of From Head to Toe by Eric Carle, where the children moved and stretched along with the characters.

The nursery's National Fitness Day celebrations will continue into next week with more activities planned.

The 'Movement and Mindfulness' programme runs weekly at First Friends, supporting children's physical, social, and emotional development.
