Ukrainian-British Support for Ukrainians in Basingstoke (UBSUB) joined a community celebration.

The group took part in the 60th anniversary celebration of Carnival Hall, hosted by the Basingstoke Hindu Society.

The event was an opportunity for the group to express gratitude to the community for its support and to share Ukrainian traditions and culture.

A spokesperson for the group said: "More than that, it was a moment to show how, while holding onto our roots, we are eager to help Ukrainians integrate and contribute to the community of Basingstoke—a goal we hold dear in our organisation's mission."

The mayor, Cllr Dan Putty, joined in the celebrations (Image: Ukrainian-British Support for Ukrainians in Basingstoke)The event took place last Saturday, September 14, and was attended by the mayor, Cllr Dan Putty, and councillors Cllr Paul Harvey and Cllr Andrew McCormick.

Representatives from various organisations, including ongoing partners from BVA, were also present, helping to strengthen community ties.

The celebration was marked by a variety of Ukrainian-themed activities, which were enjoyed by both children and adults.

These included bracelet-weaving, face painting, and cookie decorating, all inspired by the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag.

A spokesperson for the group said: "It was heart-warming to see smiles, laughter, and a genuine interest in our culture as we shared stories and experiences with the people of Basingstoke."

A spokesperson for the group said: "We remain proud Ukrainians, dedicated to sharing our culture, history, and the resilient spirit of our homeland with those around us.

"In return, we are deeply touched by the open-hearted welcome and generosity of the Basingstoke community.

"Their kindness has made this journey not just easier but truly meaningful."

UBSUB is committed to helping Ukrainians integrate into the Basingstoke community while maintaining their cultural roots.

The group is now inviting people to support its work by donating via its GoFundMe page.

A spokesperson for the group said: "We can build even stronger connections, creating a shared future full of hope and unity."

The group regularly participates in community events, helping to foster understanding and unity among the diverse cultures in Basingstoke.
