A man has been busy over the summer making financial donations to local good causes.

Peter Foster, the charity steward of the 104-year-old Elvetham Masonic Lodge, has been handing out cash to help local groups.

Peter said: "Every summer, Elvetham Masonic Lodge try to provide some financial support to local good causes with suggestions for suitable recipients nominated by our members.

"Such giving is a way to support those less visible operations in the Basingstoke area."

The latest gift was made to the 1st Basingstoke Beavers at the colony’s first seasonal meeting in War Memorial Park on Monday, September 16.

She said: "We are excited to now be able to equip our group with a selection of equipment aimed at supporting young people with SEN, both specifically at Beavers and young people as they get older.

"Such things as black-out tents and lights and sound makers will help us support young people who would require one-to-one support on camps and overnight stays."

Two other Elvetham Lodge members attended this meeting, one being the grandfather of one of the Beavers.

Both wore their scout neckerchiefs as they are also members of the Pax Hill scouting Freemasons’ Lodge.

Elvetham Lodge Freemasons made five donations this summer totalling £5,500.

Cheques were also presented to the Pelican Cancer Foundation, artWell, Basingstoke Young Carers, and the Basingstoke & Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation Charity.
