Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has unveiled plans for more electric vehicle charging points.

The council is inviting feedback on its draft Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy until Monday, November 4.

The strategy outlines how the council aims to increase the availability of public chargers for electric and hybrid vehicles.

It takes into account existing charging points and details the council's role, focus areas, and collaboration with partners to support low and zero-emission vehicle drivers.

The proposals include plans to introduce more charging points on council land, such as car parks, community centres, and commercial properties.

There are also plans to increase the number of charging points near homes.

This includes ensuring chargers are installed in new housing developments and working with Hampshire County Council to create more on-street chargers.

The council is also seeking views on how to ensure all new charging points are accessible, well-located, and user-friendly.

Councillor Andy Konieczko, cabinet member for strategic planning and infrastructure, said: "This strategy is about how we, as a borough council, use our land, our money, and our influence to bring forward more electric vehicle chargers as we play our part in tackling the climate emergency.

"We’re now very close to meeting our target for at least one public vehicle charging point in each of our borough’s wards."

Feedback from the consultation will help shape the final version of the strategy, which councillors will consider adopting early next year.

People can have their say on the draft proposals on the council's website.

Any requests for new on-street chargers should be directed to Hampshire County Council.
