A MAN accused of biting a customer inside a Co-op shop and threatening him with a screwdriver has been charged with attempt to cause grievous bodily harm, burglary and fraud.

As previously reported, officers were called at 3.47pm on September 23 to reports of an altercation at the Co-op in Wallingford Road, Sherborne St John.

A man in his 30s reported that his wallet had been stolen and that his bank card was being used at the shop. It was reported that the man was threatened with a screwdriver and bitten by a man inside the store.

The Co-Op in Sherborne St JohnThe Co-Op in Sherborne St John (Image: Google/NQ) Officers attended the scene and searched a man. They found multiple bank cards, a bag of suspected Class A drugs and more than £1,400 in cash. All items – including the screwdriver – were seized at the scene.

Carl Phillips, 49, of Weaste Road, Salford, Greater Manchester, has been charged with attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and burglary other than dwelling.

He was also charged with seven counts of fraud by false representation and attempting to escape from lawful custody.

Phillips is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates Court today (September 25).
