DEMOLITION work has finally begun on a retail park in Basingstoke.
Brighton Hill Retail Park took pride of place opposite The Camrose stadium for more than 30 years, seeing retail giants like Toys R Us, JJB Sports and PC World set up shop over the years.
As of today, Wednesday, September 25, demolition work is underway, marking the end of an era.
The unit previously occupied by Harvey's furniture store was the first to fall victim to demolition, once the go-to place to find house fittings in the town has been reduced to a pile of rubble between the former Toys R Us and Office Outlet units.

The demolition work on the derelict site will make way for the construction of two new warehouse buildings.
It was previously reported that plans to redevelop the site and erect two new buildings which can be used for ‘general industrial’ and ‘storage and distribution’ were given the go-ahead by the council.
It is expected that the buildings will be divided into seven different units of various sizes.
Within the council’s decision report, it said: “Unit 100, the larger of the two terraces, is situated to the south of the site with HGV parking and servicing areas for each unit located adjacent to the northern elevation.
“Unit 200, the smaller of the two terraces, is located to the north of the site, with HGV parking and servicing associated with each unit of the 3no. units adjacent to the southern elevation. This arrangement allows for all parking and servicing to be located in the centre of the site.”
