A Basingstoke charity is inviting residents to donate their old glasses for World Sight Day.
The Basingstoke Lions Club will be in Central Square between 9am and 3pm on Thursday, October 10, for the event.
The club will have a display of information about sight loss and equipment to help the visually impaired.
They are also asking for residents to donate their old glasses, including non-prescription and sunglasses, which will be sent to the Lions Club of Chichester to be sorted.
The club will then send the glasses to Medico France in Le Havre, where they will be cleaned and graded for use in eye camps in Africa, India, and Eastern Europe.
The gold rims will be melted down, and the vintage or designer pairs will be sold on eBay.
Around 1pm, the club's mascot, "Lennie the Basingstoke Lion," will visit Leightons and Prime Opticians to collect the spectacles already donated by their customers.
The club will also have a spectacle collection point in Morrisons Supermarket from Monday, October 7, to Sunday, October 13.
A spokesperson for the club said: "Basingstoke Lions Club is delighted once more to be able to offer its service to the community – your spectacles need not languish in a drawer; please bring them to us."
