A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenager was mugged  near Basingstoke town centre in broad daylight.

The incident occurred at around 1.40pm on Monday, September 30, when the 17-year-old was walking through the underpass by Roots Hair Salon on Mortimer Lane, on his way back to Basingstoke College of Technology.

The victim's dad posted on social media that the boy was approached by two masked males who stole his grey Tommy Hilfiger watch and a pair of AirPods.

He described his son as shaken but unharmed. He also urged the public to report any information about the stolen items to the police, who have been investigating the crime.

Police confirmed that a male, 16, from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

He has since been bailed until December 30 while further enquiries are conducted.

The police also encouraged anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or who has information about the stolen items to come forward, referencing crime number 44240424585.
