The Basingstoke Blues Club hosted a triumphant musical tribute in honour of the late Rex 'Mr Blues' Everett, raising an impressive £2,300 for Asthma + Lung UK.

Held at Central Studios in Queen Mary's College, the event named 'Rexfest' brought together the local blues community to celebrate the life and legacy of Rex, a beloved figure in the blues scene in Basingstoke who passed away earlier this year.

Gareth Goodwin, who succeeded Rex in running the Blues Club, played a key role in organising the event, supported by his partner Jess Smith, Rex's best friend Trevor Harms, and local musician Sam 'Sugarman' Lay.

The event featured a lineup of 11 talented acts, many of whom had graced the Basingstoke Blues Club stage during Rex’s 30-year tenure.

Tracey Bowden from The Golden Lion in Basingstoke played an important role in supporting the event, offering overnight camping at the pub and organising a barbecue that raised additional funds for the charity, with all food costs covered by her managers.

Attendees expressed enthusiasm for the event, with many calling for its return next year.
