A vacant retail unit at the Top of Town in Basingstoke is showing signs of new life, with renovation work currently underway—but the identity of the new business remains a mystery.
The unit, located at the corner of Market Place and London Street, was previously occupied by Timpson, a well-known shop offering services such as shoe repairs, key cutting, and phone repairs.
After Timpson closed its doors earlier this year, the 382 sq ft space was listed for let at £23,000 per year, described as a “rarely available” retail premises in a “prime location.”

Now, just months after the closure, workers have been spotted preparing the interior for a new business.
However, the nature of the incoming business is still unknown.
When asked, workers on site mentioned they had no knowledge of what the shop will be, saying they were only tasked with getting the space ready.
A check of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s planning portal shows no applications for permission submitted for the unit.
