People are being asked to walk over hot coals to raise money for a Basingstoke hospice.

St Michael's Hospice, which helps people with life-limiting conditions and their families, will be hosting its 'most challenging event' in the grounds of the hospice in Aldermaston Road on Friday, October 25.

The firewalk will see people walking barefoot over hot coals to raise money for the charity.

The ancient practise of firewalking will test their physical and mental strength – all while they support patients and families receiving care from the hospice.

It has been described as the hospice's 'most challenging event' (Image: St Michael's Hospice) Last year, more than £11,000 was raised from the event alone, but with rising costs and only 16 per cent statutory funding, the hospice is hoping to raise even more money this year.

Laura Toop, events manager at the hospice, said: "One of our most challenging events in our calendar.

"The firewalk is an event that will not only put your courage to the test, but prove to yourself that when you put your mind to it – you can conquer anything."

The event will start at 6pm, with the firewalk taking place at 8pm.

Participants are being asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship.

Friends and family are invited to come along and support people taking part and enjoy various food stalls and games as well as a fire-breathing show.

The event is open to anyone over the age of 12.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
