A BUS route was diverted after buses were "targeted and damaged by projectiles."

Stagecoach made the decision to divert the number 3 service away from St. Michael's Road in South Ham, after buses were "targeted and damaged by projectiles," a spokesperson for the bus company has said.

The two incidents happened in the early afternoon on Thursday, October 10.

Buses were forced to change route, in the name of safety and wellbeing of passengers, using a road parallel to St. Michael's Road.

As of Friday, October 11, the usual bus route has resumed.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach said: "On October 10, we made the decision to temporarily divert our Basingstoke Service 3 away from St. Michaels Road in the South Ham area.

"This measure was taken in the interest of staff and customer safety, following two incidents where buses were targeted and damaged by projectiles.

"The buses were put back into South Ham early afternoon, using a road parallel to St Michael’s Road and on October 11, Service 3 returned to normal service.

"The safety and well-being of our passengers and team members always remains our top priority."

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told the Gazette: "We have received a report of two buses having windows damaged in St Michael's Road yesterday morning (October 10).

"Enquiries into the exact circumstances are ongoing."
