Basingstoke is preparing for a major commemorative event to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, scheduled for the weekend of May 10-11, 2025.

The two-day event, themed around reflection and celebration, will honour the sacrifices of those who lived and served during World War II, both at home and abroad.

A central feature of the weekend will be a 'Memory Wall', where residents are encouraged to contribute photographs, letters, and diary entries of family members who served during the war.

The wall aims to be both a tribute to the "Greatest Generation" and an educational project, offering event-goers a personal connection to the past.

The weekend will also feature guest speakers, including a survivor of the London Blitz who will share their memories of VE Day in 1945.

In addition to the Memory Wall and speakers, attendees can enjoy a packed programme of music, dance, and displays celebrating the spirit of the era.

More details about the event will be released in the coming months.
