HERE is a round-up of court cases from Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court from the past week.

A man who assaulted a Tadley woman and sent grossly offensive message to her has been sent to jail for six months.

Trei Crane, 27, of Reading, pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman in Tadley on May 24.

He also sent indecent, obscene or menacing character message by means of a public electronic communications network, and damaged a television to the value of £250 belonging to the victim on the same day.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court jailed him for six months. The court said the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified and the defendant has a history of violence.

He was also ordered to not contact the victim directly or indirectly, or enter Tadley until September 2027.

A man who headbutted a woman on a footpath in Basingstoke has been jailed.

James Barker, 43, of no fixed abode in Basingstoke, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to the woman on Allnut Avenue on June 17.

Sentencing him for six months in jail, Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court said the offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence could be jusitified.

The court also said it was an unprovoked attack of a serious nature.

A Basingstoke teenager who robbed a number of items from another man has been referred to youth offender panel.

The 17-year-old, who can’t be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to robbing a man of his mobile phone, bank card, bag, keys, headphones, vape and bicycle in Basingstoke on August 11 last year.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court said it is cognisant of the principles of youth sentencing and ruled out custody.

He was referred to Hampshire Youth Justice Service for nine months.

A Basingstoke man who possessed a quantity of controlled Class B drug has been fined.

Steven Dunn, 48, of Rose Close, pleaded guilty to possession of amphetamine at police investigation centre in Basingstoke on May 3.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court fined him £80 and ordered for forfeiture and destruction of the drug.

He should also pay £25 ccosts and £32 surcharge.

A man has been ordered to undertake rehabilitation activity following an assault in Hook.

Luke Buckland, 35, of Odiham, pleaded guilty to assaulting another man in Hook on September 7.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court ordered him to pay £25 costs and referred him for mental health treatment for six months.

He should undertake rehabilitation activity for 20 days.

A man who was caught drink driving in Basingstoke has been banned.

Ekene Nwosu, 39, of Reading, pleaded guilty to driving a Volvo on the A30 at Blackdam Roundabout in Basingstoke on February 18 last year, when the proportion of alcohol in his blood was 132mg.

The legal limit is 80mg per 100ml of blood.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court fined him £600 and gave him a 14-month driving ban.

The court gave him a 14-week reduction in ban if he completes a course.

A Basingstoke man who failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle has been fined and his driving record endorsed.

David Budgie, 52, of Attwood Close, pleaded guilt to failing to give information on driver of a Vauxhall who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence at Fareham or elsewhere in Hampshire.

He was sent a letter at his home address on October 13 last year, and a reminder letter on November 13. But there was no acceptable response.

Budgie was charged on November 14 last year.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court fined him £100 and his driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.
