BASINGSTOKE's football club has 'strongly condemned' an incident involving a 'minority of individuals claiming to be supporters' at a match.

After a fixture at Frome Town FC stadium on Saturday, October 12, supporters of Basingstoke Town FC were allegedly involved in an assault after the game.

The incident reportedly took place outside Badgers Hill Stadium, in Berkeley Road, following the match which saw the clubs draw 1-1 after a 3pm kick-off.

Now, Basingstoke Town has released a statement about Saturday's events, saying 'their behaviour does not reflect the values of our club and the vast majority of our well-behaved supporters'.

They added: "To those responsible, we want to make it clear that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated."

The club explained that its priority is to 'create a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for everyone attending our games, both home and away' and that the incident is in opposition with their code of conduct.

Supporters who may have witnessed the incident are being urged to come forward and share information or footage with the police, which the club has thanked for 'assisting during this difficult situation'.

The club concluded: "We would like to thank the majority of our fans for your fantastic support throughout the season and hope that together, we can ensure incidents like this do not happen again."

The Gazette has contacted Avon and Somerset Police for further information on the incident.
