A SHOP selling retro, vintage and collectable football shirts to raise money for charity will return to Festival Place in time for Christmas.

Football Shirts for Charity, which sells shirts both in new and pre-loved condition, will open on the top floor of the shopping centre, near the Apple store on November 1.

The shirts have been donated by people from around the world, from international teams to local non-league sides, and Festival Place customers are also encouraged to drop off pre-loved kit that can be resold in the shop.

Football fans and colleagues, Jayme Sporton and Tania Harding set up the business together. The pair worked together as education consultants, but after Covid-19 dried up their job opportunities, they started to think of another way to fill their time.

Father-of-two Jayme wanted to do something to raise money for cancer charities after his friend died of bowel cancer, with the business 'honouring his name' by combining his passion for football shirts and fundraising.

Tania, from Alton, said football has always been a big part of her life and is a passion she shares with her father.

When her dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer aged 42, he was given less than a 15 per cent chance of survival.

“Dad and I took solace watching matches together,” the 45-year-old previously said, adding; “Though it was very traumatic, we are thankful every day that he survived cancer.”

Tania’s life was again affected by cancer when she lost a university friend, Caroline, to the disease.

The shop contributes all profits from the sales of the shirts to the Bobby Moore fund, a branch of Cancer Research UK focused on funding bowel cancer research, set up by Mr Moore's widow, Stephanie Moore OBE after he sadly died from cancer at the age of 51.

The shop will reopen for the Christmas period at 10.30am on Friday, November 1.
