There will always be police officers on duty in the town centre, day and night, to prevent crime and reduce anit-social behaviour.
Basingstoke’s Neighbourhood Policing Team launched a new dedicated town centre operation on Friday, November 1.
The operation will focus on reducing and preventing crime in the town centre, including issues relating to anti-social behaviour, business crime and night-time economy.
From Friday, A/Police Sergeant Charlotte Warhurst will lead three police officers and a PSCO, ensuring that two officers will be on duty every day and night in the town centre.
The full dedicated officers will take part in regular patrols and will build on existing relationships with partners to continue to keep Basingstoke safe.
A/Police Sergeant Warhurst, the town centre’s local bobby, said: “I’m pleased we will have dedicated officers in place to make sure Basingstoke town centre remains a safe place for people to live, work and visit.
“Our officers will provide a visible presence, carry out regular patrols, and will continue to work with partners to address issues in the town centre.
“We are always looking at the ways we can best serve the public and have listened to residents and local businesses, so hopefully this move has the desired positive impact for all.”
