A COMIC store in Basingstoke will move to a unit 'about four times larger' after it has received 'an amazing reception' from customers.

Kushti Comics in Festival Place will move to an empty unit located next to the health and beauty retailer, Savers.

The unit was previously occupied by gift shop Affinity East, which opened its doors in 2009 selling 'a range of Asia themed items'.

However, the store, which sold calendars and decorations for the Chinese New Year as well as fans, hair sticks and more, closed permanently in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.

Owned by Basingstoke resident Daniel Gray who spent more than 20 years as a collector, Kushti Comics opened its doors in January 2023 to an 'awesome response' from customers.

The shop sells a range of comics including DC classics with heroes and villains such as Wonder Woman, The Flash, Superman and Harley Quinn and Marvel series with The Avengers, Captain America and more.

In addition to selling comic books, the store also offers vintage action figures, toys, retro games, Funko Pops and Pokemon cards.

Mr Gray told the Gazette that he 'took a chance' on opening the business as he 'didn't know how many people were into comic books', adding: "We've had an amazing reception so we're moving shops to a unit about four times bigger than we are right now.

"We're very excited."

Kushti Comics Vol. 2, as its been named, will open in the unit in approximately four to six weeks, just in time for Christmas.

It joins a host of the growing independent offering at Festival Place, which includes All Our Own Crafts, offering handmade crafts from creators across the town, as well as gift and homeware shops, Fig and Fox, and more.
