This weekend, people across the borough will pay their respects to the fallen to mark Remembrance Day.

Many services and parades are taking place on Sunday, November 10, as it is the closest to Armistice Day on Monday, November 11. 

Events will be held in Basingstoke, Old Basing, Odiham and Kingsclere.

Basingstoke & Overton

A Remembrance Sunday service and parade will take place on Sunday, November 10, with a shorter service on Monday, November 11, to mark Armistice Day.

Both services will take place outside the Civic Offices in London Road, Basingstoke at 11am.

The Remembrance Sunday event will begin with a parade, led by the RBL Standard Bearer, from Market Place, through the Top of the Town to the War Memorial.  

For the safety of the parade and attendees, a temporary road closure will be put in place outside the Civic Offices during the morning and the traffic will also be stopped in New Road at 11am for the two minutes’ silence.

On Monday, there will be a two minutes’ silence at the War Memorial at 11am. The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Dan Putty, will lay a wreath at the war memorial, as part of a short 15-minute ceremony.  Wreaths will also be laid on behalf of the RBL and RAFA.

The exhortation will be given by a veteran and a cadet, to symbolise the youth accepting the responsibility for remembrance in the future. The ‘Kohima Epitaph’ will be read by a member of our Nepalese community to remember the many nations who fought for their freedoms. 

Old Basing

There will be a Remembrance parade and service on Sunday, November 10, in Old Basing. 

The Royal British Legion ask everyone to meet at the Crown Lane Hall at 9am sharp.

Corps of Drums will lead the parade to St Mary's Church where there will be a church service followed by our Act of Remembrance. They will then march back to the Jack Morris hall for a light buffet, raffle and presentation of annual awards.

All are welcome to attend.

Odiham 

A parade and service will take place on Sunday, November 10, in Odiham to mark Remembrance.

At 10am, the parade will leave All Saints Church, The Bury, to the War Memorial on High Street.

The Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying will take place at 10.05am, before the flypast at 10.30am. 

A service at All Saints Church is scheduled at 10.50am. 

Kingsclere 

There will be a parade and a service in Kingsclere on Sunday, November 10. 

The parade will start at the car park of 24 Swan Street, walking towards St.Mary’s Church, turning left at the T-Junction with George Street, and walking down Newbury Road to the vehicle entrance of St. Mary’s.

There will be many spectators/witnesses lining the pavements, particularly in the Square.

At 10.50am, there will be an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial followered by a service in St. Mary's Church. Our welcome team will be ready to greet you with a hot cup of tea or coffee.
