A NEW sports bar is partnering with the hospice in order to "give back" to the community.

The Post Box Sports Bar, at the Top of Town, has revealed it will partner with St. Michael's Hospice as its charity of choice, to raise money for the organisation.

An official collaboration was organised spontaneously at an exclusive corporate welcoming event in the Post Box on Thursday, November 7.

Wayne Lee-Buckland, operations director at the Post Box Sports Bar told the Gazette how the impromptu partnership was something he'd been "looking to organise" and after meeting representatives of the hospice, he knew it was the "right decision."

He said: "We are partnering up with St. Michael's Hospice as our charity of choice.

"We were looking for a partner and there was a gap in the market we needed to fill - and they filled it tonight.

"There is a real community element to this, we want to give back to the community that come here and this is a great way to do it - there are so many opportunities for fundraising activities we can put on.

"It is huge, we could try and encourage families to come down and get back that community spirit that Basingstoke has missed and I can't wait to see what happens."

Nicky Young, community engagement lead for St. Michael's Hospice, added: "It is really exciting, I think it could be a really great partnership.

"It's always a great thing to do for the community to give back, and I'm happy we've partnered tonight, there will be some great opportunities to do some fundraising here."

Sarah Shearman, head of fundraising at St. Michael's Hospice, said: "The atmosphere is going to be lovely, it has the right vibe for the town and we'll be able to host some great fundraising events in here."
