A COUPLE who are "more in love now" than ever before have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Roy and Frances Harris, 86 and 84, from Popley, celebrated their wedding anniversary on November 7, after 65 years together.

The couple moved to Basingstoke in the 1960s after meeting while ballroom dancing in Hammersmith and courting for three and a half years before getting married.

Roy Harris said: “We’ve always shared everything, and we enjoy each other’s company.

“We’re still the same as what we were when we first got married.”

They have lived in Popley for the last 20 years and have one son, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild who was born last year.

Roy said: “We have been very happy all our lives.”

Before moving to Basingstoke the couple lived in a caravan in Middlesex which had no running water, no electricity and no toilet, however, Roy said they got through it as they had each other.

Joanna Harris, the couple’s granddaughter said: “They absolutely adore each other,

“They are more in love now than they were 65 years ago.”

Roy said that the couple look after each other.

To celebrate the milestone they are having a small family dinner this weekend, with their son and grandchildren celebrating with them.

The couple will receive a card from the King congratulating them on 65 years. After reaching their 60th anniversary they received a card from the Queen which they have framed and mounted on the wall.

They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2019 with a dinner and dance party, with 70 friends in attendance.

The couple have become active members of the community. Frances used to read to children at Merton Infant School and they both attended OAP classes at the sports centre, while Roy still plays boules in Popley.
