A PROLIFIC shoplifter who had previously been warned about stealing has been sent to prison after taking laundry products from a Basingstoke Aldi.

Leon Davies, 26, of no fixed abode stole laundry products worth £41.93 from Aldi at St Michael’s Retail Park, in The Harrow Way, on November 5.

He was arrested and charged with theft from a shop and breaching a criminal behaviour order (CBO).

However, he failed to do so on November 5 and stole the items.

Davies was sent to prison for eight weeks for the offence.

A/PS Charlotte Warhurst, Basingstoke town centre’s Local Bobby, said: “Leon Davies is a prolific offender and his actions have had a huge impact on businesses, shop workers and the wider community.

“Our message is clear – shoplifting and this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Basingstoke.

“We take all reports of shoplifting and anti-social behaviour extremely seriously and I hope this result reassures the local community that we will do all we can to put offenders before the courts.

“We want to stop this type of behaviour, and encourage businesses affected to please keep reporting crimes to us so we can relentlessly pursue those responsible.”
