A WORLD champion amputee athlete from Basingstoke is attempting to set a world record this weekend.
Jamie Gane, 30, a teacher from Oakley, recently triumphed at the World Championships in Costa Rica, dominating the competition and bringing home three gold medals in August this year.
Now, he is looking to go one step further and secure a Guinness World Record by completing a 24-hour running challenge at Down Grange this weekend.
Jamie is attempting to break the world record for 'The greatest distance covered on foot by an amputee in a 24-hour period', something he described as a "massive challenge."

He said: "As an amputee, running for such a period of time there is lots to consider - firstly my leg, the fact I will have to run in the dark - I've had to sort out lighting for the track as it is not the best - and I have to work out a way to film the whole thing."
Jamie said he feels confident, having unofficially completed the challenge earlier this year, but for the real challenge there will be lots of rules to adhere to.
"This week and the last I've been getting paperwork in order, finally getting the plans in motion," he said.
To complete the mammoth task, Jamie will need to break the current record of 61.15km.
Jamie explained how he intends to more than double that distance.
He said: "I'm aiming for anywhere between 100km and 160km.
"If it all goes to plan then I should break the world record about nine hours into the run, giving me an additional 15 hours to add as much distance as I can."
Jamie is used to competing in competition-style events and admitted that the challenge itself is likely to get repetitive having to follow the track in the same lane.
He said: "I would much prefer to be taking a more interesting route, but this is what the guidelines require.
"I am allowed to take breaks for food and to use the toilet, but the challenge is to run as many laps as possible within the 24-hour period."
Jamie will begin his run at 9am on Saturday, November 16 and finish at 9am on Sunday, November 17.
Anyone is welcome to go and watch his world record attempt at Down Grange.
