Motorists are facing disruption as Winchester Road has been closed at Winton Square for essential works.
The closure, which prevents access to the town centre from this route, has been put in place for what appears to be essential electrical maintenance.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said this is a temporary road closure, which has been agreed with the local council to allow its teams to safely carry out repairs to a fault on its local underground cable network.
Access between Sarum Hill and Winchester Road remains open, allowing traffic to flow in both directions, but drivers cannot use the route to reach Basingstoke town centre due to the closure outside The Wheatsheaf pub.
According to the AA website, which tracks live traffic updates, the closure affects Winchester Road in both directions from Sarum Hill (Winton Square) to New Road (Winton Square). It was first reported on Tuesday, November 12.
SSEN confirmed that the repairs have now been completed and the footpath, which was excavated to give us access to the cable, will be resurfaced on Thursday, November 14, and the road will reopen by Friday, November 15.
Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes to avoid delays and check for updates before traveling through the area.
An SSEN spokesperson said: "We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused as we carry out these essential works, and assure the local community that we’re doing all we can to complete the work as safely and as quickly as possible.”
