A group of 23 residents from Kingsclere recently returned from a memorable weekend visit to Cormicy, their twinned village in the Champagne region of France.

During the visit, a special ceremony was held to inaugurate the 'Kingsclere Room', a video conferencing room, in Cormicy's Mairie (Town Hall).

The ceremony included speeches, a reception, and an exchange of gifts. This visit marked the first trip for Kingsclere residents to Cormicy since 2018 due to the pandemic.

The Kingsclere group renewed old friendships and formed new bonds while exploring the transformations in the French village.

Among the notable developments were a new sports pavilion, the restored château, improved infrastructure, and a beautifully redecorated town hall.

The group enjoyed a guided tour of the village and its surrounding woodlands. They were also treated to two festive suppers at the Salle Polyvalente.

A highlight of the trip was the visit to Pressoria in Ay-Champagne, an immersive experience that brought the champagne-making process to life through modern, multi-sensory displays.

Plans are already underway for Cormicy residents to visit Kingsclere in 2025.

The Kingsclere Twinning Association is also organising a Bistro Evening on November 30 at the Village Club in George Street.

Residents are encouraged to attend and support the twinning initiative.
