HERE is a round-up of court cases from Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court from the past week.

A Basingstoke drink driver who failed to stop after causing a crash has been disqualified and given a community order.

Ethan Cook, 20, of Bennet Close, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle on Vivian Road on May 25, when the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 58mg. The legal limit is 35mg.

On that day he caused a crash in which a man suffered back pain and a child suffered facial injury.

He was also charged for driving a vehicle without due care and attention.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court disqualified him for 16 months and ordered him to do 40 hours of unpaid work. He was given a 16-week reduction on the disqualification.

A drink driving from Hook has been disqualified and fined.

Krzysztof Zuchora, 35, of Odiham, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle on A339 Ringway East in Basingstoke on October 23 when the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 54mg. The legal limit is 35mg.

He was given a 15-month driving ban with reduction of 25 weeks. Zuchora was also fined £590.

A Basingstoke man who harassed a woman by contacting her despite a restraining order has been jailed.

Daniel Wetherill, 35, of Heathfield, pleaded guilty to pursuing a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of a woman in Basingstoke from September 24 to October 27.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court jailed him for 12 weeks due to the flagrant disregard for orders. The court said the offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.

A shoplifter from Basingstoke has been jailed.

Glyn Watmore, 46, of Freemantle Close, pleaded guilty to stealing items worth £25 on two different occasions from Tesco’s Carpenters Drive – on November 4 and 6.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing items worth £100 from One Stop Community Stores on November 8.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court jailed him for two weeks and ordered to pay a total compensation of £150 as the offence was committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence.

The court said the offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.

A Basingstoke drug driver has been banned for 12 months.

John McGinn, 61, of Sycamore Way, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle on Sycamore Way on May 9, when the proportion of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood was 2.8mg/L.

He also pleaded guilty of driving when he didn’t have a driving licence and third party insurance.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court disqualified him for 12 months and fined him £150.

A Basingstoke woman has been given a suspended sentence for not provide a breath sample for analysis.

Michelle Mitchell, 39, of Vivaldi Close, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis at Northern Police Investigation Centre in Jays Close, Basingstoke, on May 26.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court jailed for 12 weeks suspended for 18 months.

The court said the offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified, and the offence is aggravated by the previous convictions and previous failure to engage with probation.

Mitchell should also undertake rehabilitation activity for 20 days. She was also banned from driving for 36 months with a reduction of 36 weeks upon completion of a course.

A Basingstoke man who drove a BMW while being disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence has been jailed.

Aleksander Damyanov, 34, of New Stret, pleaded guilty to driving in Aldershot on July 23, 2023, while being disqualified.

He also pleaded guilty to failing without reasonable excuse to provide a sample of saliva for drug analysis and driving without insurance.

The court jailed him for six weeks because the offence was committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence. The court said the offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.

He has also been further banned from driving for 24 months.
